Spewing Fire and Gold

“Longtooth,
speak in rhymes
and say your sooth.”

Your mouth is a crucible
and amidst its fumes,
fire and gold
bubble and spew.

Your bite is the truth

and the icy neck
of pallid Luna
calls to you.

Her final forging was made
before the setting
of a million moons,
and she sleeps
in the empty blackness,
alone and blue,
waiting for Longtooth
to finally bite through
his golden chain, chew
its shape – the burning word of truth,
and spit out the flames;
the white-hot mold slowly cools.

Breathe.

He howls to Luna,
so she knows
to expect him soon.

In the crucible,
the old wolf
was forged anew.
