Goodbye Sweet Girl

We say goodbye
to the angels
that bade us

to understand worth,
seek compassion,
and embrace, infinitely,

the loves that made us.

Their gentle eyes
are a reservoir
for ancient secrets
and lost treasures,
all best kept buried
from the prying ears
of lurkers, unbidden.

It is fear that hides
these vulnerable places,
least-armored
and unprotected,
from a lancing pierce
or an angry pressure.

But, those eyes
understand
what words
cannot convey
and measure truly,
by dust and gram,
the hidden gold

within a life shared.

Tragically, my sweet girl, Chai, passed away yesterday after a long illness. Her mom and I carried her over the rainbow bridge to a place where there is no sickness or pain.
