She slept in the clouds.
Sheets of rippling
green silk
unfolded
and fell down
to touch the cold faces
of the waiting watchers
on the ground.
Then they smiled,
because the green lady
blessed the sea,
the catch,
and the mountains.
Beneath her sleepy
and watchful gaze,
the people of the north
could each feel safe.
Wrapped in her love,
entranced in their places,
the rapture above
gleamed green
‘gainst the tears
on their frozen faces.
