A Bygone Age

I long to live
in a bygone age
where no one knows
that the world
can be killed.

No harms to heal,
no black clouds to spill
forth from
the pipes and bellows.

No fires to quell,
no fumes to inhale,
gag, and expel
in a splatter
of infected gel
and shuddering
pain.

I long to live
in a bygone age
where no one knew
that our earth
could be killed
by the lances

of the Humans’ Hell,

and in peace,
our earth mother,
sleeping,
would remain.
